Guidelines and Duties
Crossing Guards
Please report on time and every day when you are a crossing guard!
Regular School Day: 7:55 to 8:15 A.M. and 2:40 to 3:00 P.M.
Late Start Day: 8:55 to 9:15 A.M. and 2:40 to 3:00 P.M.
Early Release Day: 7:55 to 8:15 A.M. and 11:55 A.M. to 12:15 P.M.
Remember to wear proper clothing when it is cold or rainy!
Safety Patrol duties include:

Report to the crossing on time and remain until the duty is over or the student is released.

Assist students across 4th East and Lincoln Street.

Wear the standard uniform supplied by the school (yellow safety vest).

Be polite at all times.

Attend strictly to the task and do not permit attention to be diverted while on duty.

Direct students, not traffic.

Know the procedures to follow in case of an accident or emergency.

Serve before school from 7:55-8:20 A.M. and after school from 2:40-3:00 P.M.

Notify the supervisor in advance when absent.

Complete necessary orientation and training during school hours.

Be responsible for the care of equipment (no tossing, twirling, or hitting with the flag).

Each student serves one to two weeks a month on a rotation schedule

If a student has three strikes against them, they are released from the Safety Program.
To be a safety patrol member a student must:

Be ten years old and in the fifth grade.

Have good vision and hearing.
-
Demonstrate leadership and reliability.

Have signed permission from their parent or guardian to participate.

Keep grades up and if grades go down to "F" they will be suspended from Crossing Guard duty until grades are brought back up.

They cannot switch over from Crossing Guard to Library Helper.
