Counseling Services

Dear Gess Parents,

As the counselor at Gess Elementary, I'm so excited to be here and I look forward to meeting you and your child(ren) throughout the school year! Feel free to stop by my office or call me if you have any questions or concerns about your child.

During the school year I will be working with students in various ways. I will be teaching a violence prevention curriculum called Second Steps.  This curriculum teaches students problem solving skills, anger management, and how to have empathy. I will also be meeting with students individually and in groups. In both these settings, the topic is usually focused around common social issues that arise at the elementary level. For example, I will be teaching students how to; deal with peer pressure, accept differences in others, communicate feelings, and deal with teasing. These social skills will be taught through discussions and role plays.

I place a high priority on getting to know the students. One way I do this is by having daily "lunch bunches". This consists of a small group of students voluntarily coming to my office and eating lunch with me. We usually play a quick game while visiting and eating our lunches.

It's going to be a great year! I look forward to being an advocate for your child in the areas of social, personal, and academic success!
